EXTREME Destinations have joined forces with leading UK facilities operator Continuum Attractions to develop a £22.5M extreme sports resort at the old ski village in Parkwood, Sheffield.
Bringing together a mix of action and adventure sports along with leisure facilities to cater to all audiences, future visitors at the world class resort can expect to partake in adrenaline-fuelled activities such as bmx, skating and even sky-diving. Other leisure facilities include amongst others a virtual reality hub, an e-gaming centre and even a music venue for live entertainment.
On top of the sports and leisure activities featured at the resort, plans for the scheme also include the development of a variety of restaurants, bars and social spaces as well as themed accommodation.
EXTREME’s CEO, Alistair Gosling, said: “This is a fantastic and unique opportunity to deliver an EXTREME Destination right in the heart of Sheffield We will be tapping into the world-wide phenomena of creating action and adventure destinations, where all the excitement of sport and leisure facilities come together – sports activities, accommodation, eating, drinking, shopping – in a totally immersive experience.”
If everything goes to plan, EXTREME hopes to start works as soon as possible to be able to open phase one in 2019. The development of the residential and leisure facilities will continue afterwards, if the planning permission for all sides of the project is approved.
Sheffield City Councillor Mazher Iqbal, said: “Bringing this area back into use as part of a truly global package of sports facilities, accommodation and other leisure pursuits is a fantastic outcome for the team at Sheffield Council that has worked to secure a preferred developer with EXTREME’s experience in delivering leisure based schemed for many years.”
